We believe being educated consumers is important. That is why we provide consumers information on various certifications or “green stamps” they may find on products.
EDUCATE
We believe its important to educate consumers on limitations a company is facing, sometimes the technology doesn’t exist or the changes are too expensive for a company to implement, transparency is the best way to keep consumers in the loop and aware of what business decisions are being made and WHY.
CONNECT
We believe connection leads to larger impact. We are connectors, bringing together pieces of the puzzle and making purchasing and consumption smoother on both fronts.
SUPPORT
We believe it’s important to elevate and call out the incredible companies helping make the world just a little bit more greener with each alternative that is purchased through them.

E-CO Alternatives has two main goals; to support consumers and to support businesses that CARE! We want to support businesses by providing larger marketing efforts, discounted consulting, access to shared sourcing and more.

We want to show consumers what alternatives there are to their regular purchases. These alternatives are not the “North Star” but they are implementing sustainability into their business practices in an authentic manner.

In addition, it is important for consumers to understand WHAT makes a company sustainable and WHY the company is working on those specific acts. The story behind sustainability is important.

Maddy- CEO/Founder
Hi there, my name is Maddy, I’m from Denver, CO. Time after time, I have found myself spending hours of time researching sustainable and/or alternatives to regular purchases I make. I realized the effort and time was not always available which led to me purchasing unsustainable items for convenience. After talking to numerous friends, family and colleagues, I realized I was not alone. I wanted to create a way to increase efficiency and convenience for the consumer while supporting sustainable businesses locally and globally. That is how E-CO Alternatives was born. This is a forever changing and adapting platform as we figure out better ways to promote sustainable consumption, raise awareness of these incredible companies in our backyard and educate consumers on what sustainable consumption guidelines are. We look forward to learning and growing with you to make this a larger community effort into a more sustainable future.
Sydney- Chief Marketing Officer
Hi, my name is Sydney, I’m the director of social media and marketing! I joined E-CO Alternatives in October of 2021 to help with Marketing and Social Media Management. My role is creating and posting content to our social media accounts, researching trends and developing partnerships. I joined E-CO alternatives because I love the mission of making sustainable products easily accessible to all consumers. Prior to starting with E-CO Alternatives, I had started researching sustainable cleaners to replace what I was using at the time. As I was researching, I became so frustrated because it was hard to know what products would work for me. The products I was considering were not cheap, so I was hesitant to purchase anything until I was 100% sure it was actually sustainable and that it was going to work well. Long story short, I connected with Maddy & E-CO Alternatives and now I not only get to learn about amazing sustainable products every day, but I also get to share them with other people!! Living a sustainable lifestyle can feel so daunting when you are first learning about it. We are here to make the process easier. I have loved the work we do and watching this amazing startup grow! I cannot wait to see where we go!
Abby Jones- Chief Strategy Officer
Hi! My name is Abby Jones, and I am a student at The University of California, Santa Barbara. I am double majoring in Economics and Environmental Studies, and I aspire to work at the convergence of business and sustainability following college. I joined E-CO Alternatives in May 2022, and I am so excited to help recruit the best sustainable businesses suitable for E-CO. I am extremely passionate about living a sustainable lifestyle and choose to support businesses that uphold circular life cycles within their production, create quality products that are meant to last, and are using their platform to do something positive for the environment. Because of this, I am thrilled to have found a community like E-CO that holds these same values I care so deeply about!
Nika Beck- Ambassador
Hi! My name is Nika Beck, and I am from Atlantic City, New Jersey. I joined Eco-Alternatives in May 2022 to learn more about the sustainable lifestyle and join a small business with likeminded efforts. I grew up around the United States and have always been interested in wildlife and environmental conservation. I am excited to join Eco-Alternatives and be able to lend a hand in sharing sustainability with others!
Emily Padden- Local Business Development/ Ambassador
Hi! My name is Emily Padden, I’m from Cocoa Beach, FL. So far in my academic career, environmental research and conservation has largely been my focus. However, I am currently a junior at the University of Central Florida, where I am studying Environmental Studies. This degree path has exposed me largely to the world of sustainability and sustainable development practices. Although I have always been interested in environmental work, I have recently become more invested in how sustainability practices and regulations play a huge and vital role in environmental health, and ecosystem protection. I am excited to be involved with E-CO alternatives as it provides an opportunity to directly support sustainable choices through the identification of businesses working sustainably with their products. As well as helping consumers in my area, and around the country make more sustainable shopping choices. I look forward to learning more about the sustainable shopping industry, and overall making it a more accessible, and easily understandable resource.
Josie Mashkevich- Distribution Manager
Hi! My name is Josie Mashkevich, and I am from Roslyn, New York. I am a rising sophomore at Cornell University and I love to travel and visit the beach! I have always had a passion for sustainability stemming from my love for the ocean. Raising awareness and education for this issue is so important in today’s world. I am so excited to join this incredible team and work to build a more sustainable business landscape!
Lauryn- Website Development/ Design
I am an artist and visual designer from Boston who recently moved to Raleigh. I earned the title of “Article Queen” from friends and family because I always have my head in a book or an article. With that being said, I have always been interested in environmental sustainability and even took a few environmental science courses in college. From there I started to spend a lot of my time searching for art supplies, skincare and cleaning products that were safe to use and would help decrease my carbon footprint. When I moved to Raleigh, one of my goals was to get involved with a program or company that’s environmentally conscious and informative. Fast forward to now and I am happy to say that I can check that off my list. I am so excited to be part of E-CO Alternatives and help others discover sustainable businesses as I continue to learn as well.
Ryan- Local Business Development Lead
Hi, my name is Ryan and I am a junior at UC Berkeley. Originally from South Korea, I am super passionate about making the world a more sustainable place which is why I joined the team at E-Co Alternatives. Through my studies of Environmental Economics and Policy at Berkeley I am learning so much in the classroom, and am so excited to make an impact in the real world through my work at E-Co Alternatives. I hope that my actions, and our team moves the needle to making the Earth more habitable and sustainable in the years to come.

Hi, My name is Missy I am Local Lead. I joined Eco-Alternatives in March 2022, I am a senior at Oakland University in Michigan. I joined Eco-Alternatives to help sustainable companies reach more clientele and to help locals find more sustainable options for shopping or eating out!
